They Lie About Wedding Planning

You know how every says, "Wedding planning is so much fun! You get to make all of your fairytale dreams come true... blah blah blah." Well, guess what....

They all lied.

I know I'm not the only one who has come to hate wedding planning. Maybe if you're one of those lucky real life princesses who has all the money in the world for the most extravagant wedding planned by an uber organized wedding planner and you don't have a daily 9-5, you might enjoy wedding planning. But for the 95% of us who live in the real world....it kinda sucks!

Now, don't get me wrong, I am so so soooo excited to get married to my best friend, but this whole wedding planning stuff is stressful. So stressful, in fact, that Justin and I have been procrastinating like none other. I mean, hello, we're getting married in less than 4 months and we still haven't locked down a DJ!

I'm sure it's obvious that on my social work salary and Justin's baseball coach salary, we're as poor as poor can be. And while we're planning on a budget and getting pretty great deals, this shiz is still expensive. If I didn't hate planning so much, I would definitely become a wedding planner.

While we still have a lot of planning and little details to attend to, my top priority at this moment is booking a honeymoon in Mexico... a must. Who cares if the wedding looks a hot mess, at least we'll be soaking up the sun in my favorite country, afterwards. Well, and of course, we need a place to live after the wedding. I guess that's pretty important.

The one thing I've learned during this whole wedding planning ordeal: We plan weddings to impress those we invite. Since when do we need to have an extravagant party worth thousands of dollars in order to celebrate love? I don't need to spend $8,000 on food to make my wedding day the happiest day of my life. The amount of pressure 'society' puts on a bride to plan the perfect wedding just proves how much importance we put on materialism. While it is important to me for my guests to have fun and enjoy their night celebrating mine and Justin's marriage, I'm not going to spend a ridiculous amount of money. Those who will be attending our wedding will be there for the right reasons, and those who aren't... well see ya.

So all of you brides-to-be and wifeys, your advice is needed. With less than four months to go, what do Justin and I need to know in order to make the rest of this planning smooth sailing?

Happy Wednesday, lovlies!

Good luck! And it's true, it's not fun. I had to plan half of it from another state while I was in grad school, on top of B being deployed until about a month before the wedding. I ended up finding a venue that did EVERYTHING (ceremony, reception, decor, flowers, food, cake) and included a wedding planner. I pretty much got to the point where I said "here are my colors and my budget, have at it". Luckily it turned out amazing!

Just stay patient with it and remember that it's your wedding, so who cares, do what you want! :)

Ha ha! I always say: I would marry my husband all over again so long as I didn't have to plan it.

Use word of mouth for the DJ. We met ours at rec league volleyball!

We spent under $10,000 of our own money on our wedding and it was an amazing experience. We had to be frugal though. I mean, my dress was only $400, but it was PERFECT. We never went on a honeymoon. Instead, we stayed at a resort our family owns only 20 minutes from home and just being away was all we needed.

The most expensive thing was the food and drinks at the wedding ($4,000). If you're on a budget, don't do an open bar. We saved $2/plate by having a buffet rather than table serving which people loved anyway!

I could go on and on. Just know that a beautiful wedding is what you make it. All you need is a bride and a groom. Everything else just falls into place.

I have no advice, but I do feel your pain. I hope it gets easier. I always think the most important part of a wedding is the taste of the cake, the other food I could care less about.

Don't worry, Everything will turn out just fine! I can't believe it's 4 months away! How crazy quick does this all pass! ♥

Don't worry! Everything has a way of working itself out. You can have a nice wedding without a huge budget. You can do many DIY things or get help from friends/family. Sure you can get great ideas off of pinterest but you have to know how to do it on a budget. As far as DJs go, ask around to see who people used locally and if they would recommend who they used or not and why

I hated wedding planning!! My sister-in-law always talks about how much she would love to get to do it all again and I think she's crazy!

My advice: Focus on the few details that are really important to you, everything else let other people help with. In all honesty, I ended up letting my parents and other family members do a lot of the stuff for me. Partially because I didn't care, and partially because I didn't live in the same city I was getting married in. It's barely been a year and I couldn't even tell you what a lot of the details look liked because they just didn't matter. Try not to stress out, as long as you're married by the end of the night it was a successful wedding!

My biggest advice is do the details that are most important to you first.

For me, it was my program, table numbers and guest book. Everything else to me is a, " it would be nice to have but it will be ok if it it's no there.

That way when it is down to a month and those other details aren't done, you won't stress it. And if someone else insists you have it, you can hand the task over to them ;)

My MIL was very adamant that we had to have some sort of extravagant, organza bag favor. So guess what her job is?

Good luck and let's just say the next 4 months will fly by!!

Sometimes I miss wedding planning, but then I remember how stressful it was and am so thankful it's over. But trust me it's allllll worth it! Just remember to try and take a moment to take it all in on your big day because it's such a whirlwind.

One of the biggest reasons I'm a huge advocate of taking your honeymoon right after the wedding is you're in need of the downtime with your new husband after all the stress and excitement of planning the wedding. Enjoy Mexico! LOoooooove Mexico!

It's nowhere near time for me to plan a wedding (read: not engaged) but you know, it's on Pinterest. But that last paragraph. So much yes! It's all 100% right. Hell, you could have pizza and beer as long as you're having fun and celebrating the love.

If it makes you feel any better my engagement was only 4 months long- so you can totally do it! As for the food, in 20 years you won't remember what you ate...I hardly had enough time to sit and eat at my wedding. Sending positive vibes your way!
